„Work is a key to integration“

IAV wants to contribute to better integrating refugees into the German labor market. Together with more than sixty other companies, IAV is part of the Tent for Germany alliance, which was founded this week. As volunteer mentors, IAV employees will support refugees in their job search and prepare them for the labor market.

More than sixty companies are involved in the Tent for Germany alliance, including Adidas, Deutsche Bahn, Google, Ikea, Microsoft, Otto, SAP and Volkswagen.

According to Tent, Germany is now the third largest host country for refugees in the world and has taken in over two million refugees, including over one million from Ukraine and countries such as Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Although they are legally allowed to work and have a wide range of experience and professional qualifications, almost half a million refugees are unemployed.

“Work is key to the integration of refugees,” said Nadège Ericsson, Executive Vice President Compliance at IAV. “We want to help refugees find their way into the German labor market. At the same time, this is a way of combating the shortage of skilled workers – a real win-win situation.”

IAV employees will meet with refugees over a period of four to six months to help them with their professional development and orientation on the job market. This may involve career goals and the local job search process, including CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, interview and networking skills.

Nadège Ericsson: “In the contact between mentor and refugee, both sides learn to understand each other better. I’m really looking forward to this experience.”
