Roller test benches as a complete vehicle laboratory in Berlin

Cutting-edge technology for cleaner mobility

Strict emission specifications and complex powertrains mean an ever-increasing testing effort in the automotive industry. At its headquarters in Berlin, IAV has four modern complete vehicle laboratories equipped with chassis dynamometers and emission and performance measurement technology, among other things. These contribute to the validation of efficient drive and vehicle concepts.

Roller test bench 4: Advanced technology for realistic test conditions

The "chassis dynamometer 4", which has been in operation at IAV since October 2020, offers state-of-the-art measurement technology for all standard gaseous emissions as well as for the mass and number of particles. In addition to passenger cars, medium-duty commercial vehicles with a total weight of up to 4,770 kg can be tested.

A key component of the test bench is the integrated all-wheel drive apex roller with 300 kW drive power, with which real road driving can be reproduced synthetically in the laboratory. Speeds of up to 200 km/h can be simulated here. All test scenarios are carried out in accordance with the latest legal requirements, such as WLTP. In addition, it is also increasingly possible to create and run your own, more demanding test profiles.

As is usual in the laboratory, IAV's latest chassis dynamometer can also be set to any humidity and temperatures from plus 20 °C to 30 °C. Air volume flows of up to 48,000 m3/h at a wind speed of up to 160 km/h can be simulated using air blowers, which ensure component cooling and more realistic conditions in the laboratory.

In addition to the climatic roller test bench and the altitude climatic roller test bench (HKR), the portfolio in the Berlin laboratory has thus been expanded to include a test bench and vehicle preparation areas.

"With state-of-the-art technology for efficient emission tests and drive concepts."
